Only 3 more days before Randy and I take to the sky on our wedding trip! We have been scurrying around like the proverbial headless chickens, trying to prepare and get ready for our journey. As luck would have it, Randy’s class reunion is this coming Friday night, and our annual airport Dawn Patrol pancake breakfast is on Saturday, where we will be slinging hash and parking planes. Seems we are being pulled in several different directions. However we are very excited and will both breathe a big sigh of relief when we finally launch to the west on Sunday!
The Navion is good to go. Turns out a temperature probe for one of the cylinders was reconnected incorrectly after the engine overhaul, thus making it appear that one of the cylinders was running hot. However, the issue was diagnosed and fixed and our magic carpet awaits!
We flew the airplane to Battle Creek, MI (BTL) this past Saturday for the Field of Flight Air Show. We have attended the show the past several years and are never disappointed. Randy used to work for Duncan Aviation, which is located on the field. We parked on the Duncan ramp, where many of the show planes were also parked. We were on the opposite end of the airport from all of the crowds and had a shaded viewing area to boot. It was a great vantage point. Before the show started, we walked down and watched Jack Knutson, Rob Holland and Kyle Franklin prepare for their performances. We also got an up close look at Susan Dacy’s “Big Red” Stearman. Of course I can’t forget to mention the Thunderbirds. As usual, they dazzled! What a great way to spend our 4th of July weekend!
